GENERAL INFORMATION

Xenon consists of monoatomic molecules, has no smell or color, does not burn and does not support combustion, is not explosive, slightly soluble in water and is very quickly excreted from the body through the lungs. As an inert gas, it is noble, it does not undergo any biotransformation in the body, does not enter any chemical reactions. The inertness of Xe is due to the saturation of the outer electron shell, its electronic configurations are extremely closed and maximally strong.
Xenon is relatively rare, therefore it is called “alien”, “guest”, “foreigner” (the ancient Greek word ξένος). Its amount in the earth’s atmosphere is extremely insignificant, 0.087±0.001 ppm (μL/L).
This noble gas was discovered in 1898 by British scientists Sir William Ramsay and Morris William Travers.
An interesting fact.
The XENON100 detector with 62 kg of liquid Xenon was installed at the Italian observatory Gran Sasso in 2011. And in 2013, 118 kg of liquid Xenon was poured into the cryostat of the LUX (Large Underground Xenon) detector at Stanford University in South Dakota. Scientists are conducting research to identify previously unknown particles (including particles of “dark matter”) and related processes. The particles pass through a 30-centimeter layer of a noble gas stored in a liquid state under strong cooling with a density of 3000 kg/m³ (this is the path that corresponds to the lifetime of a free electron in Xenon). In this case, the particles ionize its atoms of Xenon and give out flashes. Until now, research continues and arouses great interest in the world scientific community.

APPLICATION

Scopes of Xenon:

  • Xenon is used to fill incandescent bulbs, powerful gas-discharge and pulsed light sources;
  • in conjunction with Neon, Xenon is used in radio electronics for the production of plasma panels;
  • Xenon radioactive isotopes are used as radiation sources in radiography;
  • Xenon fluorides are used for passivation of metals;
  • for general anesthesia and analgesia in medicine, because it is non-toxic, has no side effects, does not cause allergies, can be used during pregnancy, excreted in 3-4 minutes. It is currently used to treat a variety of addictions;
  • liquid Xenon is used as the working medium for lasers and as a component of gas mixtures for lasers;
  • fluorides and oxides of Xenon are used as the most powerful rocket fuel oxidizers. Xenon, both in pure form and with a small addition of cesium-133 vapors, is a highly efficient working medium for electroreactive (mainly ion and plasma) engines of spacecraft;
  • in research activities (medicine, space, basic sciences).
PRODUCTION

Ingas LLC gets Xenon brand 5.0 HP, 6.0 UHP by the method of low-temperature distillation.
